About
Those little bells! – How many times have they been heard… Meanwhile, the cymbal is a completely different instrument – and a stringed one at that! Tubular bells are not just a school instrument. They also have a concert version and have been an important part of the symphony orchestra for years. And that's just the beginning. There are also their larger cousins in this musical family: the xylophone, vibraphone, and marimba. Come and listen to the extraordinary sounds they can produce. We invite you to the next season of the (Un)Musical Lectures – "Orchestral Encyclopedia"! This time, we will take a closer look at individual instrument families and musical sections. We will learn about their unique sounds, construction, history, and function in the orchestra and beyond. We will discover the differences between aerophones and chordophones, why the violin and double bass belong to the same family, and how musical instruments create a unique palette of colors and sounds together. This is a solid dose of knowledge, musical trivia, and inspiration – a true treat for all music lovers. The classes are aimed at elementary and secondary school students. Monika Zytke is a respected conductor and professor at the Institute of Music at the Pomeranian Academy, who combines classical education with a passion for improvisation and an open approach to music. A graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, she is an expert in gospel, Jewish, and Georgian music, and implements programs with a wide range of styles – from classical to contemporary ethnic music. Her concerts are characterized by spontaneity and emotional engagement with the audience.
