About
There are countless types of woodwind instruments, yet many of us simply say, "Oh, the flute!" when we see one. Meanwhile, the oboe, clarinet, and bassoon simply shake their heads with a smile – each is a completely different instrument. Although all of them have keys, it is the reed – single or double – that gives them their unique sound. Join us as we explore the world of reed instruments – after all, no one likes being mistaken for their cousin… We invite you to the next season of the (Un)Musical Lectures series – "Orchestropedia"! This time, we will take a closer look at the different families of instruments and musical sections. We will learn about their unique sounds, construction, history, and function in the orchestra and beyond. We will discover the differences between aerophones and chordophones, why the violin and cello belong to the same family, and how musical instruments create a wide range of sounds and colors together. This is a solid dose of knowledge, musical trivia, and inspiration – a true treat for all music lovers. The classes are aimed at elementary and secondary school students. Monika Zytke is a respected conductor and professor at the Academy of Music of the Pomeranian University, who combines classical training with a passion for improvisation and an open approach to music. A graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, she is an expert in gospel, Jewish, and Georgian music, and implements programs with a wide range of styles – from classical to contemporary ethnic music. Her concerts are characterized by spontaneity and emotional engagement with the audience.
