About
Philippe Giusiano, winner of the 1995 Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw (he was also a finalist in the 1990 competition), was born in Marseille in 1973, where he began piano lessons at the age of five. He studied at conservatories in Marseille and Paris, and later, thanks to a scholarship, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. During his studies, he won numerous prizes in piano competitions. His success in Warsaw opened doors for him to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, La Scala, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Gaveau, and Suntory Hall. Giusiano is a regular guest at major European music festivals, including the Warsaw Chopin Festival and its Europa. He performs in Germany, Japan, Austria, Poland, Italy, France, Portugal, Morocco, Denmark, Lithuania, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, and the Middle East, both in solo recitals and in collaboration with renowned orchestras and conductors such as Kazimierz Kord, Yutaka Sado, Jacek Kaspszyk, Grzegorz Nowak, Krzysztof Penderecki, Antoni Wit, Philippe Entremont, and Jean-Jacques Kantorow. Giusiano's discography primarily features highly acclaimed recordings of works by Chopin and Rachmaninoff. His first album, released by the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute, featuring works by Chopin, was released in recent weeks. Philippe Giusiano also actively engages in teaching, primarily in Poland and Japan. Since 2008, he has been a guest lecturer at the Heisei Music College in Kumamoto, Japan. In 2012, he was awarded the Medal of the City of Marseille for his outstanding contributions to the cultural life of his hometown.
