About
Marc-André Hamelin: A performer with almost superhuman technical skills – as The New York Times wrote. He is renowned worldwide for his exceptional musicality combined with dazzling technique. He tackles major works from the classical repertoire, and is also known as a fearless explorer of lesser-known gems from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. He regularly performs around the world with some of the finest orchestras and conductors, and also gives recitals in the world's best concert halls and at major festivals. He records exclusively for Hyperion Records, which has already released over 70 of his solo, orchestral, and chamber albums. The artist also composes – he has written over 30 original works. Most of these have been published as sheet music by Edition Peters. Marc-André Hamelin has won numerous awards, including the German Phonographic Critics' Society Award for his overall body of work, seven Juno Awards, 11 Grammy nominations, the Jean Gimbel Lane Award for outstanding performance from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University in Illinois, and the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Awards for overall achievement in piano performance, awarded by the Ontario Arts Foundation. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Knight of the Ordre national du Québec, and a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
