About
The appearance of the instruments that make up the orchestra has evolved over the years. Each instrument had its own ancestors and great-grandparents, which were the first prototypes. Over the centuries, they were modified and improved until they reached their current form. However, there is one instrument that has looked the same for many years and bears the name of its creator. Adolf Sax created it in the 19th century – can you guess what it is? Let's get to know its extraordinary musical family. We invite you to the next season of the (Un)Musical Lectures – "Orchestral Encyclopedia"! This time, we will take a closer look at individual instrument families and musical sections. We will learn about their unique sounds, construction, history, and function within the orchestra, and beyond. We will discover the differences between aerophones and chordophones, why violins and cellos belong to the same family, and how musical instruments create a wide range of colors and sounds together. This is a solid dose of knowledge, musical trivia, and inspiration – a true treat for all music lovers. The sessions are aimed at elementary and secondary school students. Monika Zytke is a respected conductor and professor at the Institute of Music at the Pomeranian Academy, who combines classical education with a passion for improvisation and an open approach to music. As a graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, she is an expert in gospel, Jewish, and Georgian music, and implements programs with a wide range of styles, from classical to contemporary ethnic music. Her concerts are characterized by spontaneity and emotional engagement with the audience.
