About
The Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra will present the concert "Dialogues" on November 5, 2026, under the direction of guest conductor Hilo Carriel. The performance is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra and proposes a meeting between different eras, traditions, and forms of musical expression, featuring works by Mikhail Glinka, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The opening of the concert will feature the overture to the opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila" by Mikhail Glinka, a composer considered one of the main figures in the development of a Russian musical language. Marked by its vibrant and virtuoso character, the overture has become one of the composer's most well-known works and presents elements that would help define the course of Russian music in the 19th century. Following this, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622, will be performed by Tiago Silva, a clarinetist from the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, as a soloist. Composed in 1791, shortly before Mozart's death, the concerto is structured in three movements — Allegro, Adagio, and Rondo: Allegro — and explores the different expressive possibilities of the instrument, alternating passages of great virtuosity with moments of delicacy and lyricism. After the intermission, the program will turn to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with his Symphony No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 17, known as "Little Russia". Written from themes associated with Ukrainian musical tradition, the work demonstrates the composer's interest in incorporating popular elements into the symphonic language. Throughout the four movements, Tchaikovsky articulates melodies of a folk character, dramatic contrasts, and great orchestral richness, revealing a particular synthesis between tradition and personal creation.
