About
Legendary pianist Glenn Gould considered Berg's Piano Sonata, with its darkly expressionist qualities, as 'among the most auspicious Opus Ones ever written.' Schumann's Overture to Manfred, inspired by Byron, begins in gloom but soon rises to passionate energy. Additionally, Richard Strauss' musical portrayal of Cervantes' sublime madman Don Quixote and his madcap adventures adds a rich vein of musical storytelling.
