About
"The Barber of Seville" by G. Rossini is an opera buffa that is considered the quintessential example of the genre. It is also the most famous and beloved work of this composer, featuring beautiful music, a great storyline, and "an inexhaustible supply of theatrical humor," as Piotr Kamiński writes in his book "A Thousand and One Operas." The musical direction of the opera is provided by Tomasz Tokarczyk, while the direction is handled by the outstanding theatrical and film actor, director, and pedagogue, Jerzy Stuhr. This admirer of Italy, its culture, and art, made his directorial debut in the musical theater on the Krakow stage. His "Don Pasquale" by G. Donizetti continues to be immensely popular to this day. This time, the work of Stuhr and Tokarczyk once again features a comedic opera – "The Barber of Seville," which showcases both the composer's mastery and the work's wit. It is also a work that "overflows" with famous musical themes and "hits" from the history of the genre.
