About
One of the most popular classical ballets in the world – a story about a young girl who, with the help of a magical nutcracker, travels to a land of wonders, where anything is possible, just like in a dream... The tale of "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" was written in 1816 by the German poet, writer, musician, and painter E.T.A. Hoffmann. Its French adaptation by Alexandre Dumas, Sr., inspired the creators at the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. The ballet's form was conceived by Marius Petipa, the father of the Russian ballet school, and the music was composed by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who, after the success of his "Sleeping Beauty," also created the choreography for this ballet. The premiere of "The Nutcracker" took place in 1892. Tchaikovsky's beautiful and elaborate music became a source of inspiration for generations of ballet artists. Our production is created by Emil Wesołowski, a distinguished Polish choreographer who has been associated with the National Opera for 30 years as a dancer, ballet director, and author of productions. The audience will be guided through the fantastical world by the set design, created using modern techniques, by Marek Grabowski, and the costumes, designed by Maria Balczer, will be created by the costume workshops, which will produce nearly two hundred magical costumes, each with Balczer's characteristic imaginative style. The Krakow Opera Ballet will perform. The production is aimed at both children and adults.
