About
"Balladyna" is a two-act ballet based on Juliusz Słowacki's drama, set to music by Frédéric Chopin. On one hand, it is a quintessential Polish work, while on the other, it is a universal romantic tale about how the need for love and power can test our loyalty and morality. The central figure of the ballet is Balladyna, a beautiful young woman from a provincial town, who initially dreams of love and success. However, when the opportunity to achieve these dreams arises, she decides to disregard the laws and ethics of society, leading to the murder of her sister, Alina, which sets in motion a spiral of violence from which there is no escape. "Balladyna" is a beautiful and complex story that explores the conflict between human and divine forces, and raises profound questions about responsibility for one's actions. – Funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, from the Culture Promotion Fund – a state-funded targeted fund.
