About
A single flute can produce a variety of sounds. When a flute becomes part of a whole family of flutes, what different tones and landscapes can be created? Starting with the bright, high notes of a piccolo, we move through familiar flutes, progressing to alto flutes, bass flutes, and even sub-bass flutes. As the range deepens, the tones become richer and more complex; when these instruments come together on stage, the flute is no longer just the clear, light sound we associate with it, but a wider range of tones, with the ability to overlap and extend each other. In the fall of 2026, the Flute Ensemble will perform indoors.
