About
Opera
In 1914, composer Alban Berg attends a performance of Woyzeck, a fragmentary play by Georg Büchner that will inspire him to create a masterpiece. With raw honesty and without filter, his Wozzeck portrays the dehumanization of a fragile individual, whose desire for recognition and social connection is constantly met with rejection and abuse. In this new production, our musical director Alain Altinoglu and the director Christophe Coppens will explore the chaotic emotional world of the soldier Wozzeck. A tumultuous combination of violence and solitude blurs the boundaries between the past and the present, between reality and imagination. The broken protagonist is gradually consumed by a single obsession: murder. When the opera was first created in 1925, it caused a sensation. One hundred years later, this fascinating work has not lost any of its relevance. Are you under 30?
