On Sunday, October 4th, the series 'Music for Walkers' ends at 4:30 PM in the Church of Bergkirchen. After the summer break, this is the first concert in the newly renovated church, which is decorated for the Harvest Festival. The Seeberg Quartet is guesting with Yangchun Zhang (1st Violin), Xinyi Sun (2nd Violin), Jingkai Feng (Viola) and Xinyu Liu (Cello). At the same time, it marks the beginning of numerous concerts with the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. The programme includes Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's String Quartet No. 2, Op. 13, and Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8, Op. 110. From 3 PM, the lippischen Landfrauen offer coffee and cake inside and around the community house.
The two works of the concert evening could not be more different and simultaneously reflect two decisive moments in music history. Mendelssohn composed his second string quartet at the age of only 18. The work is entirely marked by his admiration for Ludwig van Beethoven, who had died in the year of the quartet's composition. At the same time, Mendelssohn processes musical ideas from his Songs Without Words within it. Shostakovich's eighth string quartet, on the other hand, was created more than 130 years later and is considered one of his most personal works. Under the impression of the war-ravaged city of Dresden, the composer created a deeply moving musical legacy, which is marked by numerous autobiographical quotations and is still understood today as a powerful warning against war and violence.
The Seeberg Quartet is among the promising young chamber music ensembles of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. This year, it received an award at the Auryn Competition, a regularly held chamber music competition by the Hochschule.
All four musicians come from China. The name of the ensemble combines their origin: two members come from Shanghai, whose characters contain the character for 'sea', and the other two from the province of Shanxi, whose name contains the character for 'mountain'.
Artistically, the quartet is accompanied by Prof. Veit Hertenstein at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. In addition, the ensemble worked with the renowned conductor and pianist Ralf Gothóni, who regularly gives masterclasses in Detmold. In the summer semester, the quartet also participated in a workshop of the initiative Musethica e. V. and performed for a week in social facilities in Detmold.
