About
Our "Slam Symphony" is now in its twelfth edition, and this time the focus is on Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du printemps" – a vibrant work that stirred emotions in 1913 when it was first presented as ballet music at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris: There was laughter, screams, and even outright chaos, including brawling. The piece is about ritualistic invocations to awaken nature. Eventually, a young woman is chosen to be sacrificed to the earth, by dancing herself into a trance and ultimately to death. The resulting sounds are a wild and unrestrained orgy, with a percussive rhythm that penetrates deep. However, Stravinsky was free to move within the classical world and had no need for dogma. And so, this is the story of, or perhaps the irony of, music history: Despite the initial uproar and scandal, this composition, with its immense power, is now considered one of the great masterpieces of the 20th century. The creation and premiere, the theme, and the music are all wonderful starting points for the personal interpretations and creative ideas of our poetry slam participants. With Meike Harms, Dalibor Marković, and Jule Weber, three highly acclaimed voices from the German-speaking poetry slam scene are on stage, including those who have won prizes at the German-speaking poetry slam championships and regularly perform on major slam stages – and we are eager to see which wordplay will resonate most with the audience, as the final decision, as always, will be based on the applause!
