About
Luciano Berio's 1971 composition, "Klangrausch," transforms unease into captivating music. The multi-colored orchestral piece, "Bewegung," is characterized by the repetition of a musical phrase – and the hypnotic effect intensifies with increasing tempo and dynamics. Afterwards, we present the concert for cello and orchestra by Robert Schumann, with Pablo Ferrández as the soloist. He composed it in 1850, choosing the key of a-minor, which he considered his favorite. In a book published during his lifetime, titled "Aesthetics of Music," he wrote that this piece "reveals everywhere a devotion, delights in cheerfulness, and does not resist in pain, nor does it despair in hopelessness." As a result, the piece can be heard as a dramatic scene, with a main theme that runs through the piece in numerous variations, from its initial, affectionate beginning to its fiery finale. The program concludes with the fourth symphony by Piotr Iljitsch Tchaikovsky. This autobiographical work, composed in 1878, reflects his current situation: To protect the secret of his homosexuality, he had briefly married one of his students, but this only made him even more unhappy, leading to a nervous breakdown. A recurring theme plays a crucial role in the piece's fluctuating, sometimes melancholic, sometimes unrestrained, movement, as Tchaikovsky stated: "There is not a single measure in my symphony that I have not felt, and that is not a reflection of my innermost soul."
