About
The musical styles of 17th-century France and Italy were markedly different, yet Italian influences are unmistakably present throughout the history of French music. Jean-Baptiste Lully, court composer to the Sun King, was himself born in Italy, while the Parisian Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre was among the first French composers to adopt the trio sonata form pioneered by Arcangelo Corelli and his contemporaries. The widely travelled Georg Muffat, meanwhile, developed his own distinctive style, blending the musical traditions of both countries. In this concert, Barokkbandið Brák explores the fruitful interplay between these two musical cultures in collaboration with Olivier Mourault, who offers audiences an opportunity to discover the unique sound world of the natural trumpet. Duration: approx. one hour without intermission.
