About
Gautier Capuçon lets his cello tell the story of Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto with a human voice: at times delicate and yearning, at times powerful and playful. The orchestra accompanies like a colorful stage setting, bringing every turn of the solo instrument to life. In the warm string sound and echoes of Bohemian folk music, Dvořák's longing for his homeland during the time of its creation in America finds its way into this music. 'Why didn't I know that one could write a concerto like this? If I had known, I would have written one long ago!' Johannes Brahms admired this work. But even his First Symphony can be heard: dense strings, powerful brass, and striking timpani create a dramatic tension that is compellingly balanced between strict form and emotional richness.
