About
Georgijs Osokins was born in 1995 as the youngest son of a musical family in the Latvian capital Riga. As a Baltic pianist, he presents a program shaped by his homeland and sounding like an inner conversation: At its center is Arvo Pärt, whose complete piano works Osokins recorded last year for Deutsche Grammophon in celebration of the Estonian composer's 90th birthday. Among them are his own piano transcriptions of «Fratres», for which Pärt personally granted permission. Yet Osokins places Pärt's floating, timeless silence into a fascinating tension field: Skryabin's «Vers la Flamme» burns like a contrasting image, and Liszt's «Après une lecture de Dante» plunges into abysses from which there seems no return. An evening about silence and burning.
