About
Two exceptional artists, two distinct personalities, one shared concert. South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim and Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz have been performing together for several years. They met in 2016, when Bomsori Kim placed second in the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition. She was delighted by the offer of artistic collaboration from the pianist – the winner of the Chopin Competition in 2005. Two years later, for the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, they recorded an album of works by Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Frédéric Chopin, and Karol Szymanowski. The album won a Fryderyk Award. In Łódź, the artists will present works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which perfectly illustrate their unique sensitivity and deep artistic understanding. Among them will be Debussy's Sonata in G minor, which is also on their joint album. Completed shortly before the death of the French master, it was intended to be the third of six sonatas in various chamber ensembles – it turned out to be the last… Although the composer himself encountered difficulties during the work and ultimately judged the sonata harshly, listeners are captivated by its intimacy and atmosphere, as well as its rich colors – characteristic of impressionism, but also possessing a certain austerity.
