There's something about the sound of brass instruments that is inextricably linked to both Christmas and New Year – and at Trinitatis Church, this is allowed to fully express itself, as the 15 brass instruments, timpani, and percussion from the DR Symphony Orchestra fill the beautiful church space with music carefully selected for both the church and the holiday. Within the church's baroque organ and marble, some of the most brilliant festive tunes of musical history come together: Händel's festive "Fireworks Suite" and baroque music by Bach and Gabrieli stand alongside Richard Strauss' equally festive "Festmusik der Stadt Wien." And when the timpani and percussion join the trumpets, horns, bassoons, and tubas, the music gains extra brilliance and weight in Trinitatis Church's unique acoustics. The musicians are accompanied by the internationally renowned Belgian trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts, a regular guest at Trinitatis during the Christmas season, who this evening sings, conducts, and plays the trumpet himself. And of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without it: along the way, the entire church is invited to sing along to two Danish Christmas carols with organ accompaniment – amidst an evening of baroque splendor, brass sounds, and a strong touch of Christmas and New Year.
